How to Clean Up the D Drive in Windows XP

A computer hard drive is usually divided into several partitions. Typically, the C drive contains operating system files, while the D drive is dedicated to the user's data. Running programs and some system processes can create various temporary files on the computer's drives, significantly reducing available disk space. Windows XP has an administrative tool that permits a user to efficiently clean up computer hard drives, including partitions such as the D drive.
1.
Step 1

Log in as an administrator in Windows XP.
2.
Step 2

Click on the "start" button in the lower left corner of the screen, and open "All Programs".
3.
Step 3

Click on the folder "Accessories" and then open the folder "System Tools".
4.
Step 4

Click on "Disk Cleanup" to start the disk cleaning program.
5.
Step 5

Choose the D drive in the "Select Drive" window and click "OK".
6.
Step 6

Click on each box under "Files to Delete", and then click "OK." Click on "Yes" to confirm that you want to clean up the drive.
7.
Step 7

Click "OK", and then choose "Delete Files" to confirm disk cleaning. The "Disk Cleanup" window closes automatically when the process is complete.
