How to Restore Corrupt Windows Files
Many viruses and other types of malicious software target the system files that make Windows work properly. Sometimes, installing software that is usually safe can also result in these important files being corrupted. If a Windows system file becomes corrupted, you may experience system instability, security vulnerabilities, diminished performance, limited application capabilities and more. Fortunately, these files can be quickly and easily restored to their original state.
1.
Step 1
Click the "Start" button in Windows and look in the "All Programs" folder, then in the "Accessories" folder and finally in the "System Tools" folder. Click the "System Restore" icon.
2.
Step 2
Click "Restore my computer to an earlier time" on the System Restore welcome screen; then click the "Next" button.
3.
Step 3
Click the "Back" button that is just to the left of the calendar. Keep clicking it until you get to the first month in the calendar, then click the first bold date. This is the original boot-up and system configuration restore point for the computer, and it contains all essential Windows system files in good working order. After you click this date, click the "Next" button.
4.
Step 4
Review your chosen restore point on the confirmation screen; then click the "Next" button. In Windows Vista, the button says "Finish" instead. Once you click this, your computer will begin the restore process and reboot. This may take several minutes.
5.
Step 5
Click the "OK" button on the confirmation dialog box that pops up after Windows boots up again. All of your corrupted system files have been restored to their original condition.
