some firefox tricks or tips
This is Firefox tip that's been around but bears repeating. To open the current page in a duplicate tab, put the focus on the location bar (ctrl+L or F6 or alt+D), then use the ALT+ENTER combo.
If you want to move paragraphs around quickly in Word, try this.
Put the cursor anywhere in a paragraph and press ALT+SHIFT+UP or DOWN arrow to have the current paragraph change places with the text below or above it.
If you have Firefox set to full-screen mode (F11), you'll still have access to the urlbar with ctrl+L, which brings up a kind of floating dialog that can sub for the standard one. From there, you can also open a local file if you choose. Keywords will also work in this dialog, which also lets you open a link in a new window, the current window, the current tab, or a new tab. It also remembers your choices from one time to the next.
There are a few fast(ish) key combos for resizing individual letters, words, lines, paragraphs etc in Word.
- Start by using the arrow keys or PageUp/PageDown to move the cursor where you want to begin resizing text.
- Then use Ctrl+Shift-arrow keys to select the words, lines, or paragraphs you want to enlarge or reduce in size.
- That done, press Ctrl+[] to raise or lower the size of your selected text. You'll find the squared brackets next door to the letter P on your keyboard.
While you're in this mode, the usual ctrl+b, ctrl+i, ctrl+u etc are available in case you want to make your selection Bold, Italicized, Underlined and so on. The ever handy ctrl+z or ctrl+spacebar will reverse what you just did. Ctrl+spacebar, isn't so much an undo, as a style remover.
Everyone should try Fennec if they have a N1 or a Droid. I seriously can't wait for this browser to get past beta! Loving the interface and the loading times. A little hiccups here and there because its still in pre-Alpha but nothing big. It's definitely good enough for a test drive and quick browsing.
Windows 7: I know this has been covered, but in the light of talking to some other users I wonder if it would warrent a tip box mention.
The fastest and easiest way to protect your files in windows 7 is to go to system, click system protection, then find each of your drives that you want to protect, click configure and make sure that system settings and files are checked, and allot some percentage of the drive to be used for previous versions.
When importing a CD into iTunes, your songs are ripped into AAC format at a rather low-quality bit rate. You can rip songs into convenient MP3s, or even Lossless. That's right - if you're an audiophile, you can play lossless music in iTunes and even on your iPod! Just go to the iTunes preferences, and in the 'General' tab, click the 'Import Settings...' button. Just remember - the higher the bit rate, the more space your music takes up. Lossless files can be 25MB per song.
